By: Aden Ten

Saving money has never been more important than in today’s economy. These days, no one can afford to travel as much as we used to. We all have to find ways to lower our travel expenses and learning to travel on a budget doesn’t have to be painful if you follow these 7 cheap travel tips, you can make the most out of every mile that you go.

1. Travel light: You can avoid costly travel fees, by leaving some stuff at home. You don’t have to pack a different outfit for each day that you will be gone. Instead, pack clothing that is versatile and can be worn different ways. It’s cheaper to wash an item than it is pay luggage fees at the airport.

2. Tour Packages: Taking advantage of tour packages is a great way to travel on a budget. Research different packages online to get the best deals. Tour Packages often include things like travel, and meals and lets you see as much as possible during your trip. You can go it alone and research different packages yourself online or you can get a travel agent to do it for it. Make the most out of your vacation if you are one that likes to see the hotspots.

3. Keep track of your money: Carrying cash while on vacation is just not feasible these days. This is particularly true if you are travelling to a high tourist area. Using ATM cards, credit cards and verified travelers checks is easier and safer. Since ATM and credit cards require pins to be used for gathering cash, you are less likely to have your money stolen should you lose your card. Verified travelers checks require you to sign them at time of use. This can also protect you.

4. Understand foreign currency: This is an important rule because it will help you to pre-plan the amount of money that you will bring for your trip. Knowing how much foreign currency is worth can significantly lower your expenses because you can bring what you can afford to bring.

5. Mobility: Plan ahead how you will get around once you reach your destination. Will you rent a car? Will you prefer a bike? These are important questions to ask yourself.

6. Keep track: You will want to keep track of the money you spend as you go so that you don’t go overboard.

7. Travel Documents: Keep track of all of your travel documents like passports just in case you misplace one of them. Just remember to keep them separate and secure. A replacement is useless if you can’t find it.

Following these travel tips, you can afford to travel even when money is tight. Working with a budget doesn’t have to mean that you have to stay at home throughout your vacation. With these tips, you can make the most out of your vacation time, no matter how much money you have to spend and still have a great time.

Save On Travel By Being Your Own Travel Agent

Way Out.......One of the best ways to save money on travel is to act as your own travel agent. It may take a little more time, but it can be worth it in savings.

Best Travel Tip for Being Your Own Travel Agent

By: Stewart Palmer

The other day I overheard a conversation between two women discussing their summer holiday plans. One was telling the other that she had gone to her local travel agent and asked for a cheap package holiday in Spain. The agent had quickly managed to find a holiday that suited and the lady booked it immediately.

The other woman said that she wished she could do the same but had been unable to find a travel agent who could help. Apparently, someone she knew recommended Northern Cyprus to her. The description of its climate, fabulous beaches, beautiful scenery and welcoming local people deeply appealed to her but she had been unable to find any travel agent offering package holidays there. The person who recommended Northern Cyprus to her explained how it was possible to book flights and accommodation online but she felt apprehensive about not going through a travel agent.

I was quite taken aback at hearing this admission of total dependency on travel agents and ignorance of Internet travel sites. After all, this was 2008 in the U.K. where traditional travel agents have long since been marginalised by online travel sites. Yet, as the conversation developed it became apparent that neither woman knew anything about what resources the Internet offers in this respect.

It got me thinking about how many other people there were around who need tips on organising travel online and when I got home I decided to write down the following seven steps for them.

Step 1: Finding out about the travel destination

Open Google and type into the search box, the name of whatever country or general area you want to holiday in, followed by the words “travel information” or “travel guide”. For example; “Spain travel information”. Browse several of the sites your search throws up and then decide which ones give you the best travel tips relevant to your holiday needs.

Step 2: Deciding on the actual resort

Use the best sites you find from step 1 to decide which resort or locality offers you most of what you want for your vacation. For example, localities with secluded beaches or beaches with lots of facilities, resorts that have plenty to keep the children occupied or quiet villages in scenic locations, etc.

Having familiarised yourself with all that you want to know about the resort or locality, ascertain the nearest airports (or other relevant transportation centres).

Step 3: Finding suitable accommodation

When you have found some resorts that satisfy your criteria, look for suitable accommodation in them. This may require typing a new search term into Google because the sites you have looked at so far may not have sufficient detailed information about specific accommodation in a given locality. They may however have some links to other sites that do. If so, check the links out before starting a new search. If you do need to do a new search, the best search term to use would be something like; Name of resort or locality followed by the word “accommodation”. For example if after researching southern Spain, you had decided you liked what you had read about Mojacar as a holiday resort, you would type; “Mojacar accommodation”. Here’s a tip worth remembering: you may need to refer back to the other website pages that you have already opened so keep them open by doing your accommodation search in a new tab. In case you don’t know about using tabs, take a look at your browser tools options and learn how to set your browser up so that you can open new pages in new tabs.

Step 4: Checking cheapest flight availability

When you have ascertained that accommodation exists in your chosen locality, the next step is check out what flights (or other transportation) is available to get you to the resort.

Open another tab on your browser and this time type in the search term, “cheapest flights” followed by the name of nearest airport. If there are other, more distant airports that you would be prepared to consider, you might want to run separate searches for each airport.

Spend time on checking for flights because quite considerable variations in ticket prices exits, not only from flight operator to flight operator but also from one airport to another even when they are more or less the same distance from your departure airport and operated by the same company. Very significant price variations will also be found by trying different departure and arrival dates.

Step 5: Provisionally book accommodation

Assuming that you establish the availability of flights (or other transportation) at the time you want and within your budget, you will be in a position to provisionally book accommodation. Return to the browser tab you left open with the websites providing accommodation details and follow the instructions for contacting the person or organisation offering the accommodation. Sometimes this will be an automatic online process and sometimes you will need to send an email. Submit the dates you have decided upon from the flight availability research. You will not normally be asked for a deposit at this stage but if you are, inform the accommodation owner that you want them to provisionally hold the dates until after you have booked your flight.

Step 6: Booking your flight

Having received confirmation that the accommodation is available for you between the selected dates, return to the website where you found the cheapest flight deal and book your outgoing and return flights. Very occasionally you might be unlucky and the flights on the selected dates are no longer available. If so you will need to select new dates and redo step 5.

Step 7: Confirm Accommodation

Once you have your flight has been booked you are in a safe position to confirm your accommodation booking. Usually, this will require that a deposit is paid, either online or by bank transfer. Either way, the balance is usually paid upon arrival at the accommodation.

Tips For Disabled Travel

450 mm by 450 mm (18 in by 18 in) Handicapped ...

Image via Wikipedia

If you or a family member is disabled, the thought of a vacation may make you cringe. There aren’t always “disabled friendly” features in many locations. This article covers some tips to help you overcome any disability when you travel.

5 Best Disabled Travel Tips For Cheap Or Free Travel For Travelers With Disabilities

By Helen Hecker

Disabled travelers can enjoy free, cheap and discounted travel just the same as their more able-bodied friends do. There are many good deals and opportunities for travelers with disabilities to take advantage of for accessible travel. Save yourself a lot of money by taking advantage of the following disabled travel tips.

1. Discounts are available in top name hotels and motels today to disabled travelers as well as the able- bodied. They have to comply with the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) regulations so finding good accessible rooms is much easier than in the past. Of course the newer hotels and motels may be your best bet where you know they are more than likely built from the ground up correctly for accessibility rather than being patched up as some hotels and motels have done that were built in the not recent past.

2. Hostels are one of the cheapest ways to go of course. Hostels in the past have always been for the young folks, college students and those willing to sleep in rooms with others and not very private. And many were not wheelchair accessible either. Today there are many hostels that cater to wheelchair and those disabled travelers with mobility problems. Many go out of their way to make things more accessible and private for the disabled or wheelchair traveler. There are many accessible hostels.

3. You may not have thought of a home exchange but this is perfect if you have a wheelchair accessible home to offer. These may be a little harder to find and you may have to plan some vacation plans around the location in order to take advantage of it. Instead of Rome you may have to go to Paris! Instead of Disneyland you may have to go to Disney World – both cater to wheelchair travelers and have been wheelchair accessible for many years. If location doesn’t matter this is a great opportunity to take advantage of, so consider an accessible home exchange.

4. Don’t forget about the YMCA and YWCA. They have offered many accessible options for the disabled traveler for years. Many have accessible rooms and most if not all have swimming pools and weight rooms in order to get your daily exercise and fitness workout in.

5. If you’re staying at a hotel in the United States, find out if they offer free transportation from the airport for guests. If they do then by law they have to provide free accessible transportation for disabled travelers too. If they don’t have accessible hotel vans they have to use an outside van service. In any event they have to get you free to the hotel in a wheelchair accessible van or other accessible mode of transpiration.

These are just a few of the best disabled travel tips for free or cheap travel doe travelers with disabilities. There are many more, too many too list here. You’ll find more and more freebies are offered to disabled travelers today than ever before.

Flexible Travel Can Save You Money

Kite FascinationMany people plan their life around things they do not want to do and try to squeeze in the things that they enjoy.  Take vacations for instance.  Vacations can relieve stress and bring families closer together, but many people don’t go on vacations because of the expense.  Here are some tips to help you travel for less.

Flexible Discount Travel Tips Can Take You Far

By: Chris Jensen

But the trouble is that it is so expensive that not many can fulfill this dream of theirs. So far travel is considered a luxury that only rich can afford. But things have changed now because discount techniques are there for anyone to use and make travel affordable and enjoyable.

The basic concept of discount travel is flexibility. The more particular you are about your program the more expensive it becomes. By just being open about your travel dates you can save a huge amount on just air fares. If you widen the choice of places also it can become even better.

For example if you want to visit South America and not set on any particular place then it can be much cheaper than if you do it otherwise. Anybody who is a a travel freak and believes in discounts will have this flexibility as opposed to going to a particular place on a particular day. When you come across people who do not earn much and yet travel a lot you will find that this is the way they do it.

Your attitude towards flexibility is does not have to be limited till the arrival of the destination. If you really want discounted travel then you should have your itinerary also very open. The true discount traveler recognizes the worth of this flexible touring because he knows that there is going to be equal benefit from this as it would be with expensive travel both enjoyment and interest wise.

The discount traveler is aware of the result of rigid itinerary – more cost. Once you become rigid about visiting a particular place at a particular time you have to depend heavily on the travel agents who may fix everything for you at exhorbitant prices.

The idea of being open to everything also includes food and entertainment. The prices of the food depends from country to country so whatever you get at the best price why not try that? Drinks follow the same pattern: say if you are in Mexico Tequila will be extremely cheap, so keep your eyes open for places where you plan on spending your money on activities.

This flexibility will bring you not only great travel but also great cultural variety and knowledge which you will cherish for a life time. So, with a little creativity and the right mind set for planning your next trip, you will be surprise at what you can afford and have a blast of a time doing so.

Travel Tips On A Budget

Oia, Santorini Island, Greece June 2006Traveling on a budget can seem to make your travel difficult, but it doesn’t necessarily have to make it difficult.  Here are some travel tips if you are traveling on a tight budget.

Travel Tips Under Budget Constraints

By Catherine Reid

Trying to live within your budget is a good thing, but it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy high-quality traveling. In daily life you may need to travel within the country or abroad. Reasons for traveling may include company/business meetings and/or deals, seasonal vacations and visit to a sick relative etc. No need to be worried about because there are many traveling companies and agents to guide you for reasonably priced traveling ideas. Only things you require are time, effort and research in order to find these inexpensive opportunities. Numerous places of Central and South America are very cheap but tremendous to be visited.

Following are some tips and recommendations for finding traveling packages under budget constraints:

1. One of the best economical traveling ideas is to plan short vacations closer to your home or in a nearby city which you have never visited before.

2. Regardless of traveling through an airline or a cruise, plan to travel by car if your destinations is not much far. it the best option if you are traveling from city to city. But first take into account the time spend for traveling and price of fuel.

3. For foreign tours try to hire a well reputed and reliable travel agent. They know almost all the tricks of saving money even for an outstanding journey.

4. You may also book your vacation traveling at your own but a travel agent helps and guides you in finding and getting better deals.

5. You can significantly save your traveling expenditures by deciding to go for tour either in off-seasons or during mid-week.

6. Most of airlines, cruises, hotels and beach resorts offer especially designed discount traveling packages during off-peak times. In this way you may enjoy a luxurious tour at reasonable expenses.

7. Try to buy an all-inclusive vacation package because it includes all expenses from flight booking to everyday expenditures till your return to home.

8. Try to find out a suite with kitchen facility and bring some food along with you to save extra money. This is because in many sightseeing places not only accommodation but meal charges are quite high that may affect your budget badly.

9. Another cost effective tip while traveling abroad is use of credit card because most of the time special discounts have been offered on credit cards.

10. Check out online provides economical traveling vacation packages. Most of which include accommodations, flight charges and rental fee of cars etc.

11. Sign up with different online travel agencies in order to get e-mails regarding travel deals. You may also register yourself for getting weekly emails about special traveling packages under budget constraints.

12. Adjust your schedule of stay according to your available finances. You must shorten your residing time at the place where you can not save much money in any case.

13. Do not hesitate to compromise on location and quality of hotel room.

14. Settle on your requirements for easy choice of traveling package and proper bargaining before making search for package which can be best fit according to your budget.

15. Make quick decision and finalize your required travel deal as soon as you find it because usually these cost effective deals may not be offered for longer time period by companies

16. Utilize services of travel agents because of their easy access and information about travel packages suitable for limited budget. Generally, financially constrained deals are unavailable to the tourists directly.

17. Not always but occasionally booking at an eleventh hour may save a lot of your money because airlines and cruises usually lower the prices when near to depart.

18. While traveling through a cruise, try to acquire an inside cabin because these are less expensive than cabins at ocean view side.

Road Trip Tips

California roadSometimes taking a vacation where you fly your family to Hawaii may not be feasible.  A road trip may be the option for you, and they can often be very fun.

Road Trip Tips

By: Temp

America’s first choice for family vacations is very quickly becoming the road trip. The reason is that it is the most affordable option for large group travels in a time when many people are hesitant to rely on air travel. If you are taking a vacation with the whole family, you know that sometimes it seems less like a vacation, or more like a colossal nightmare. When you decide to take that family road trip, keep on hand some useful road trip tips that will ensure you all get the vacation you have been looking forward to for so long.

The fun thing about road trips is that you allow yourself to be opened up to a world you may have never seen before. Experiencing a road trip with your children is an exciting way to teach them about the country, and open their worlds to new experiences and new things. It is also a great way to see historic areas you may not have gotten a chance to had you taken a flight. Make sure your road trip is all of the excitement you have been waiting for by ensuring your road trip planning takes care of every possible scenario.

Games, books, puzzles, coloring books, are all great things to keep your children occupied in the car. Keeping your children occupied will soon become a task that is paramount once you have been on the road for an hour or two. Ensure they each bring all of their favorites so that there are no excuses to being bored. Have a list of fun in-car games that you can play along the way – trivia, license plate games, I-Spy, or anything that will be age appropriate for your children. You may even want to invest in a portable DVD player and allow each child to take turns choosing the movie. You also may want to get each child a journal if it is age appropriate, as well as a small disposable camera. This will enable them to create their own unique diary or travel guide of their family vacation.

Before you get in the car, make sure you have a cooler fully stocked of both food and drink. This will minimize times you will need to stop, and also save you money on gas station or fast food snacks. Take a quick break every couple of hours for bathroom needs. And you also want to have several trash bags and several packages of anti-septic wipes handy for spills and messes.

Make sure you have taken full advantage of online travel guides and US travel guides so that you have your route completely mapped out ahead of time. Ensure you are fully aware of weather and road conditions in each city you will be visiting, and how long it will take you to get from one place to the next. You can use travel guides for both weather and mapping so take full advantage of them. Make a copy of the travel guide for each of your children, and have each child be a navigator on a different day. Kids love to participate in activities for grownups and they will enjoy the feeling of being in charge.

Always remember to expect the unexpected and do not put too much pressure on yourself. There is no such thing as the perfect vacation, but proper road trip planning will get you as close as possible.

Discount Travel Through Travel Packages

C-GDSP Air Canada 767-233ERDiscount travel techniques have been around for a while.  If you know some of these tips, you can save hundreds or even thousands off of your next vacation.

How to Have Pocket-friendly Vacations – Try Discount Travel Packages!

By: Michael Smith

Vacations and traveling around the world to discover newer places have become necessities these days, as they offer a change from the hectic lifestyles of people. They provide us with relaxation and rejuvenation, and also an opportunity to spend quality time with one’s family.

However, at times these vacations are limited to just dreams because of the heavy costs burdening one’s pocket. But as the saying goes, where there is a will, there is a way. And in case of travel, the way is discount travel packages.

Discount Travel Packages are a common phenomenon these days and are offered by most travel agencies or tour planners around the world. With these packages, one can have a completely enjoyable trip, at cheaper costs. For instance, when one goes in for discount travel packages, the travel company offers you facilities such as cheaper accommodations, facilities of transport, a cheap travel ticket etc. Since, most of the expenditure in planning a trip goes in buying airline tickets, travel companies realize the need of discount air travel, and make sure that they include it in the discount travel packages.

What’s more is that many airlines themselves offer a cheap travel ticket, on their websites if you book it well in advance. The earlier you book, the better discount will you be able to gain. Besides, if you are a regular travel of a particular airline, then they maintain a track record of how many hours or kilometers you have traveled with that airline. Once you have traveled a substantial number of hours or kilometers, they offer discount air travel for your next trip. So, that basically acts as an incentive or a bonus.

Cheap Airlines Ticket offers are also advertised regularly in newspapers, hoardings, magazines etc. Thus, one needs to keep a regular check on these. For, that matter, when the holiday season or the vacation period is on, or is about to commence, travel agencies advertise about their discount travel packages. These packages have a lot of benefits, depending on the destination, number of people traveling etc. But they are definitely cheap and pocket -friendly and give you a wonderful experience. At times, travel agencies have tie-ups with hotels to offer cheaper accommodations, and also tie-ups with airlines to give cheap airlines ticket, so you don’t have to worry about the costs when planning a vacation, and can easily enjoy your dream holiday.

Discount Travel Sites May Not Save You Money

~ Beautiful Warning ~Some discount travel sites have membership fees or other hidden fees you may not be aware of.  Be sure to check out a site before giving them your money.

Are Discount Travel Sites Really Worth It?

By David Dutton

You may have seen advertisements about discount travel sites on television and wondered if these really give the best deals when planning your next vacation. In some respects, they can be a good way to book you vacation packages, but you should know some facts before choosing one of them. For starters, they are not all the same, and some sites show better deals than others.

You really have to do your foot work when it comes to these sites. While many offer discounts, some of the problems that you face is the fact that they combine airfare, hotel accommodations and even car rental services together, and you have to book them all in one in order to receive the discount. If you already have your airline tickets arranged, or don’t need to rent a car, your hotel deal may not be that good.

Another thing you have to watch out for is that many of these sites only show the best hotels, or the most popular airlines. You may find lower rates on other, less popular airlines or hotels, but you will never know unless you look. Then there are the fees they charge. Usually these sites lure you in with great deals, but when you are ready to book your deal, you have to join their site, and pay a fee. Some of these are one time, and others are monthly. It is a good idea to do your homework first.
