If you or a family member is disabled, the thought of a vacation may make you cringe. There aren’t always “disabled friendly” features in many locations. This article covers some tips to help you overcome any disability when you travel.

5 Best Disabled Travel Tips For Cheap Or Free Travel For Travelers With Disabilities

By Helen Hecker

Disabled travelers can enjoy free, cheap and discounted travel just the same as their more able-bodied friends do. There are many good deals and opportunities for travelers with disabilities to take advantage of for accessible travel. Save yourself a lot of money by taking advantage of the following disabled travel tips.

1. Discounts are available in top name hotels and motels today to disabled travelers as well as the able- bodied. They have to comply with the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) regulations so finding good accessible rooms is much easier than in the past. Of course the newer hotels and motels may be your best bet where you know they are more than likely built from the ground up correctly for accessibility rather than being patched up as some hotels and motels have done that were built in the not recent past.

2. Hostels are one of the cheapest ways to go of course. Hostels in the past have always been for the young folks, college students and those willing to sleep in rooms with others and not very private. And many were not wheelchair accessible either. Today there are many hostels that cater to wheelchair and those disabled travelers with mobility problems. Many go out of their way to make things more accessible and private for the disabled or wheelchair traveler. There are many accessible hostels.

3. You may not have thought of a home exchange but this is perfect if you have a wheelchair accessible home to offer. These may be a little harder to find and you may have to plan some vacation plans around the location in order to take advantage of it. Instead of Rome you may have to go to Paris! Instead of Disneyland you may have to go to Disney World – both cater to wheelchair travelers and have been wheelchair accessible for many years. If location doesn’t matter this is a great opportunity to take advantage of, so consider an accessible home exchange.

4. Don’t forget about the YMCA and YWCA. They have offered many accessible options for the disabled traveler for years. Many have accessible rooms and most if not all have swimming pools and weight rooms in order to get your daily exercise and fitness workout in.

5. If you’re staying at a hotel in the United States, find out if they offer free transportation from the airport for guests. If they do then by law they have to provide free accessible transportation for disabled travelers too. If they don’t have accessible hotel vans they have to use an outside van service. In any event they have to get you free to the hotel in a wheelchair accessible van or other accessible mode of transpiration.

These are just a few of the best disabled travel tips for free or cheap travel doe travelers with disabilities. There are many more, too many too list here. You’ll find more and more freebies are offered to disabled travelers today than ever before.

Travel Tips Under Budget Constraints

By Catherine Reid

Trying to live within your budget is a good thing, but it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy high-quality traveling. In daily life you may need to travel within the country or abroad. Reasons for traveling may include company/business meetings and/or deals, seasonal vacations and visit to a sick relative etc. No need to be worried about because there are many traveling companies and agents to guide you for reasonably priced traveling ideas. Only things you require are time, effort and research in order to find these inexpensive opportunities. Numerous places of Central and South America are very cheap but tremendous to be visited.

Following are some tips and recommendations for finding traveling packages under budget constraints:

1.	One of the best economical traveling ideas is to plan short vacations closer to your home or in a nearby city which you have never visited before.

2.	Regardless of traveling through an airline or a cruise, plan to travel by car if your destinations is not much far. it the best option if you are traveling from city to city. But first take into account the time spend for traveling and price of fuel.

3.	For foreign tours try to hire a well reputed and reliable travel agent. They know almost all the tricks of saving money even for an outstanding journey.

4.	You may also book your vacation traveling at your own but a travel agent helps and guides you in finding and getting better deals.

5. You can significantly save your traveling expenditures by deciding to go for tour either in off-seasons or during mid-week.

6.	Most of airlines, cruises, hotels and beach resorts offer especially designed discount traveling packages during off-peak times. In this way you may enjoy a luxurious tour at reasonable expenses.

7.	Try to buy an all-inclusive vacation package because it includes all expenses from flight booking to everyday expenditures till your return to home.

8.	Try to find out a suite with kitchen facility and bring some food along with you to save extra money. This is because in many sightseeing places not only accommodation but meal charges are quite high that may affect your budget badly.

9.	Another cost effective tip while traveling abroad is use of credit card because most of the time special discounts have been offered on credit cards.

10.	Check out online provides economical traveling vacation packages. Most of which include accommodations, flight charges and rental fee of cars etc.

11.	Sign up with different online travel agencies in order to get e-mails regarding travel deals. You may also register yourself for getting weekly emails about special traveling packages under budget constraints.

12.	Adjust your schedule of stay according to your available finances. You must shorten your residing time at the place where you can not save much money in any case.

13.	Do not hesitate to compromise on location and quality of hotel room.

14.	Settle on your requirements for easy choice of traveling package and proper bargaining before making search for package which can be best fit according to your budget.

15.	Make quick decision and finalize your required travel deal as soon as you find it because usually these cost effective deals may not be offered for longer time period by companies

16.	Utilize services of travel agents because of their easy access and information about travel packages suitable for limited budget. Generally, financially constrained deals are unavailable to the tourists directly.

17.	Not always but occasionally booking at an eleventh hour may save a lot of your money because airlines and cruises usually lower the prices when near to depart.

18.	While traveling through a cruise, try to acquire an inside cabin because these are less expensive than cabins at ocean view side.

Road Trip Tips

By: Temp

America’s first choice for family vacations is very quickly becoming the road trip. The reason is that it is the most affordable option for large group travels in a time when many people are hesitant to rely on air travel. If you are taking a vacation with the whole family, you know that sometimes it seems less like a vacation, or more like a colossal nightmare. When you decide to take that family road trip, keep on hand some useful road trip tips that will ensure you all get the vacation you have been looking forward to for so long.

The fun thing about road trips is that you allow yourself to be opened up to a world you may have never seen before. Experiencing a road trip with your children is an exciting way to teach them about the country, and open their worlds to new experiences and new things. It is also a great way to see historic areas you may not have gotten a chance to had you taken a flight. Make sure your road trip is all of the excitement you have been waiting for by ensuring your road trip planning takes care of every possible scenario.

Games, books, puzzles, coloring books, are all great things to keep your children occupied in the car. Keeping your children occupied will soon become a task that is paramount once you have been on the road for an hour or two. Ensure they each bring all of their favorites so that there are no excuses to being bored. Have a list of fun in-car games that you can play along the way – trivia, license plate games, I-Spy, or anything that will be age appropriate for your children. You may even want to invest in a portable DVD player and allow each child to take turns choosing the movie. You also may want to get each child a journal if it is age appropriate, as well as a small disposable camera. This will enable them to create their own unique diary or travel guide of their family vacation.

Before you get in the car, make sure you have a cooler fully stocked of both food and drink. This will minimize times you will need to stop, and also save you money on gas station or fast food snacks. Take a quick break every couple of hours for bathroom needs. And you also want to have several trash bags and several packages of anti-septic wipes handy for spills and messes.

Make sure you have taken full advantage of online travel guides and US travel guides so that you have your route completely mapped out ahead of time. Ensure you are fully aware of weather and road conditions in each city you will be visiting, and how long it will take you to get from one place to the next. You can use travel guides for both weather and mapping so take full advantage of them. Make a copy of the travel guide for each of your children, and have each child be a navigator on a different day. Kids love to participate in activities for grownups and they will enjoy the feeling of being in charge.

Always remember to expect the unexpected and do not put too much pressure on yourself. There is no such thing as the perfect vacation, but proper road trip planning will get you as close as possible.

Traveling is one thing that even older people can enjoy. Whether you are a seasoned traveler or someone who is just beginning to enjoy traveling, these travel advice can help you plan a safe and enjoyable trip. Here are some helpful tips for senior citizen travelers:

Prepare your documents as early as possible. Passport is the most important document and you can apply in person, through passport agencies and by mail. When you receive your passport, be sure to fill in the information page so that your family and friends can be notified in case of accident or emergency. Most countries requires visa, so after acquiring a valid passport, you also need a valid visa. These documents need time for processing and for senior citizen travelers, it is best to apply 2-3 months before your trip to avoid stress and rushing that could be bad for you.

Do not bring more than you need. Bring only the things that you need because it will be so tiring to carry heavy suitcases. Senior citizen travelers, should not burden themselves with too much luggage. Wash and wear clothing is a good idea so that you will not bring too many clothes. Avoid bringing valuable things like jewelries and dress simply to avoid being a target of thieves. Bring only reasonable cash with you. Bring your additional budget in the form of traveler’s check, credit card and ATM card.

Senior citizen travelers should check their health condition with their doctor before traveling. Find out if you need immunization before traveling to protect you from serious diseases abroad. If you are under medications, it is important to bring enough supply to maintain your health. Bring your medicines in its original packages or bottles and bring your doctor’s prescription to avoid narcotics issues in foreign countries or airports. Review your insurance policy and check if it covers your medical expenses abroad, if not it is best to buy a policy that covers your travel medical expenses.

Read and get information about the country you want to visit. It is best for senior citizen travelers to know the current situation of their destination in terms of security, weather, culture, people, laws and other important things about your destination. You can protect your health, security and enjoy more on your trip if you know more about your destination.

Don’t stress yourself. Senior citizen travelers should not subject themselves to stressful situations. Even if this is the travel you’ve been waiting all your life, it is not wise to stress yourself and fill in all your time with a lot of activities. Take time to relax, you will not enjoy if you are too tired.

Look for best deals to get the best out of your travel. Traveling could be really expensive if you do not know where to find the best deals. There are a lot of perks available especially for senior citizen travelers. Getting discounts on your accommodation and airfare will give you more opportunity to enjoy your trip.
Travel Tips For Corporate and Personal Safety

By Nikki Stephens

Unfortunately travel safety has become a major concern for both corporate and personal travelers. There are far too many predators out there trying to make money what they consider the easy way, by stealing it. Even more frightening is the fact that many are not looking for money but to rape or cause bodily harm. Everyone knows that crime exists and that the possibility of these events is real. However, way too many think it will never happen to them. There is no concrete secret that will guarantee that you will never fall victim to crime while traveling but there are measures you can take that can reduce the possibility. Adhere to these travel tips and give yourself the travel safety edge.

It is very important when you are traveling that you keep your luggage or briefcase close to you at all times until it has been checked in. Would be villains would like nothing better than too snatch it when you are least expecting it. A basic rule of thumb is this; if you cannot afford to lose it, don’t carry it with you. One of the biggest errors corporate and personal travelers make is the ill-fated measure of drawing unwanted attention to his or herself. You may have it but it is not necessary to flaunt it in the wrong environment. Wearing expensive jewelry, rings and watches only makes you a target. It is always better to be low key and a part of the general landscape.

This may sound like something out of the movies but women should be very careful when accepting drinks from someone they do not know. In addition, they should never leave their drink unguarded. Drugs are often introduced at this point that will create a helpless victim very quickly. Plan your accommodations safely as well. Take the necessary precautions to ensure safety. Avoid staying at hotels that put you into potential bad situations. When you leave your hotel it is important not to form a routine. Criminals watch for regular routines so they can best plan their crime. Vary your schedule a little to keep them off guard.

Corporate personnel should not wear their nametags in public if they are utilized. If you are high on the corporate ladder you do not want to present this to a ‘would be’ crook. Never use cabs that are unmarked; this is not a safe practice. If you need to rent a vehicle make sure you do so with a company with a solid reputation. It is wise to always keep a working cell phone with you for emergencies. In addition, if you are driving only park in areas that are close to your destination and have plenty of good lighting. Make an effort to keep your money hidden from those who are around you. Once again you want to avoid throwing up red flags to criminals as if you are saying, “here is what I have come and get it”. Do not be one of those travelers who thought following safety tips was useless. Your valuables and your life may depend upon it.

Why Traveling Without Insurance May Cost You More

By: Stuart S. Travel

You are going traveling. You have lots of expenses to cover. You need to pay for your air fare, your accommodation, your food, your travel while away, cultural experiences and the list goes on. You want to save money so you decide not to bother with travel insurance. You are going on the trip of a lifetime so nothing will go wrong. It’s an unnecessary expense so you don’t need it. Wrong. Very wrong. Traveling with out insurance can be the biggest mistake you make when organizing your trip and a very costly one.

What is travel insurance? Well there are two kinds of insurance to look at when traveling.

1. Travel insurance, (sometimes called trip insurance) which covers cancellations, delays, lost baggage and emergencies.

2. Travel medical insurance protects you against any medical expense while traveling.

Ideally, you need a combination of the two when traveling.

Imagine these scenarios:

You are in Darwin, Australia when a cyclone hits the area. The city is devastated by the cyclone and all services shut down. You have to be evacuated and sent home. Your travel insurance will cover you for this. You do have travel insurance don’t you?

Your luggage goes missing in India. You need to buy new clothes and fast. Can you afford it in your budget? Of course you can, you took out traveler’s insurance – didn’t you?

Or what if you go surfing in Hawaii and take a big wipeout? You are so severely injured you need surgery and major medical assistance, and then are airlifted home. But that’s okay – your travel medical insurance covers all that. You have got it, haven’t you?

Travel insurance is there to protect you in case bad things happen on your trip. It is a necessary expense. Overseas medical costs can be astronomical if you are not insured. And if you are injured in a developing country, medical attention may not be as good as at home. If you are insured you can get flown home and attended to at no cost.

Every year the government deals with thousands of cases of travelers being injured, falling ill or dying overseas. This is a distressing situation for all involved, but made even worse when the travelers are not insured, often leaving them with huge bills to pay. Hospitalization in other countries can cost over one thousand dollars a day. Medical evacuations can be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars and if you die in Europe, it can cost over ten thousand dollars to bring your body back home. If you do not have travel insurance you have to cover these costs yourself (or your family will have to find the money).

Travel insurance is a cost you need to budget for. If you don’t take it out, your medical expenses could cost a whole lot more. Insure yourself and travel safe.

Five Ways to Enjoy Your Summer Vacation

By Debbie Gisonni

Joy, growth and renewal are what vacations should provide, however, in our fast-paced, over-scheduled and stress filled adult lives, we often overlook the value these benefits. Here are five ways to insure you enjoy your summer vacation.

1. Always use your vacation time.

According to the World Tourism Organization, Americans take an average of 13 vacation days a year compared to Brazilians who take 34 and Italians who take 42. Given those statistics, it’s amazing that some of us actually don’t use what little vacation time we have! If you’re all about work and no play, you are surely headed for a burn-out down the road. You can’t have an enjoyable vacation if you choose not to have one at all.

2. Define “vacation” on your own terms.

You don’t have to take a trip, spend a lot of money, or even leave your house to have a vacation. All you need to do is take a break from your normal routine or work. If you happen to travel on your job, staying at home may be the perfect retreat for you. Or perhaps you’d like to spend your free time taking a pottery class, planting a garden, reading a few good novels, spending time with friends and family, or just listening to the birds sing while you gentle swing in your backyard hammock. A vacation is a frame of mind, not a place or schedule. So, do whatever gets you into it.

3. Do your research.

If you do plan on taking a trip, make sure there are no unpleasant surprises when you get there. Call and ask in advance to find out about things like kid friendly or pet friendly accommodations, transportation services, safety, climate, etc. There are plenty of travel books and Internet sites that provide all the necessary information to make your trip a pleasant one. Or, you can take the old-fashioned approach and book your travel arrangements through an experienced and knowledgeable travel agent or tour company.

4. Relax and enjoy.

Don’t treat your vacation like a work project. Too much planning, organizing, list making and over scheduling gives you no time to relax and enjoy yourself. Get out of work mode and kick back. Don’t feel as if every day needs an itinerary – unless you’re on a group tour and all you have to do is show up. Try to space out planned activities to every other day with alternate days off for whatever you feel like doing in the moment. Otherwise, you’ll end up needing a vacation from your vacation when it’s all over!

5. Leave work behind.

The whole point of vacation is to take a break from work, not to have thoughts and messages from work mixing in with your sweet, creamy Pina Coladas or daring sky diving lessons. Leave the laptop behind, don’t check voice mail, and don’t call the office. Change your outgoing phone messages and set up an auto reply on email to make sure everyone knows you’re not available until your return date. This is your time to put yourself first and have a happy vacation! BTW, that’s what I’ll be doing over the next couple weeks. Look for my next column at the end of the month.

Best Travel Tips for a Fabulous Vacations

Author: Sunne Khurana

Traveling is such a great experience that we thought we could do this all the time.

Unfortunately, we get very less time to travel in this fast & furious world. Mostly of us only get a couple weeks a year (if we’re lucky) to take our vacations.

Make ensure that those trips are the extremely best which are having some kind of humor in that(unlike the many travel movies where there are nightmares around every corner), we are providing our top 10 travel tips to make your vacations unforgettable – in a superior way of course.

Top 10 Travel Tips

1. Plan early & book when a best deal fits your budget. Companies pop up everyday for more and more travel. Why? Because as the baby boomer age group gets grown-up & once they boot their kids out of the house, they are traveling more and more. Best deals are easy to get and many sound companies that offer great & economical rates and fares.

2. Be familiar about your destination and the best times to travel. Remember when Angelina Jolie takes the whole family to cross-country only to find out favorite Fun Park, which is closed? Do not let that happen to you. Know what is going on and when the best times to travel are. For example, most people know that March and April tend to be spring break times. Well, if you take your little ones to Panama City Florida during these months, chances for you to go to run into wild.

3. Take care of your belongings. Making sure the family pet is also taken care off.

4. Budget wisely. Make sure that if the worst happened you still have resources to fall back on. If you are on a budget, be smart & enjoy doing things on a trip.

5. Don’t forget your key documents. There is nothing more frustrating than forgetting something when you are hundreds or thousands of miles away from home.

6. Again, pick up your area of choice to determine how close you are to different activities and restaurants. Its nothing like landing a great deal on a hotel which near by beach, market & restaurant for a fabulous vacation. For example, a hotel that is so far away from the beach you need to catch a train or rented car just to get there. In addition, you want to make sure that everyone traveling with you will have fun! Again, in Las Vegas Vacation when the kids are too young to gamble, they have to come up with creative ways to have a good time.

7. Sign up for online magazine & newspapers keep your ear to the ground about your destination of choice.

8. Plan it properly it can really bite you in the behind on certain things like rentals and such.

9. Make a checklist and to be sure, that everything is in order before and during the trip. From booking to packing to check in relaxation, do not fail to remember anything.

10. Having a great fun and enjoy No matter what type of vacation you are going on.

These are our top 10 best travel tips and we live by them each time we take a vacation. Hope you will too as we know your trip will be much more enjoyable.

Travel tips for new regulations

Transport Canada and the U.S. Transportation Security Administration have tightened security and travel regulations at airports across Canada and the States in the wake of a foiled Christmas Day terrorist attack on a flight from Amsterdam to Detroit.

New procedures for domestic and U.S.-bound flights have increased wait times and caused delays at security checkpoints since, while holiday travellers underwent enhanced screening, including security checks on electronic equipment and random, threat-based screening of travellers.

Arrive early at the airport to allow time for extra screening measures and follow these 10 tips from CheapFlights.ca to help make your journey as smooth as possible.

1. Pack compact: If your bag can’t fit in the overhead compartment or has wheels, you can’t bring it on your U.S.-bound flight. Canadians flying domestically can still bring two pieces of carry-on onboard. Transport Canada states: “U.S. bound passengers are not allowed to bring carry-on bags into the cabin of the aircraft, with some exceptions. Passengers may carry with them the following items: medication or medical devices, small purses, cameras, coats, items for care of infants, laptop computers, crutches, canes, walkers, containers carrying life sustaining items, a special needs item, musical instruments, or diplomatic or consular bags.”

Many airlines, including Air Canada, are waiving fees for extra checked baggage for U.S.-bound customers. CheapFlights.ca recommends putting your essentials in a small carry-on bag and checking the rest when you arrive at the airport.

2. Prepare for pat-down: Transport Canada and the TSA have authorized gate crews to perform a pat-down of all passengers before boarding a flight, as well as to check every carry-on item before you even sit down. Have your bags open and ready for checking.

3. Sit in an aisle seat: Some airlines are actively enforcing a rule which states all passengers must be in their seats at least one hour before landing. If you know you’ll need multiple bathroom breaks, choose an aisle seat so you can get to the bathroom before the restriction begins.

4. Dress in layers: Some airlines are asking travellers to stow all items during the flight, including blankets and pillows. Dress in layers so you can keep warm without these extras.

5. Expect delays: Be prepared for longer than usual wait times on U.S.-bound flights. Bring a book, charge up your laptop before leaving home, and be patient at your airport gate. –more
